MartinLogan Steps Up Motion-Series Performance

Lawrence, Kan. – MartinLogan added three speakers to its in-room Motion speaker series, giving them an XT designation because they feature larger cabinets, larger drivers, higher power handling and higher efficiency than the line’s current models.

The new models, which expand the line, are the floorstanding Motion 60XT starting at $2,995/pair, $899-each 50XT center channel, and $1,195/pair 35XT bookshelf speaker. They ship at the end of July with high-gloss piano-black finish, but a step-up high-gloss black cherrywood finish is also available.

The series also includes the floorstanding Motion 20 and 40 speakers, Motion 15 bookshelf speaker and Motion 30 center channel. Those are priced at

 $1,499/pair, $1,899/pair, $799/pair, and $649 each, respectively.

The Motion series, launched in January 2010, incorporates Folded Motion thin-film tweeter technology in lieu of the company’s more expensive electrostatic drivers. The technology is said to deliver fast transient response and a surface area that is eight times that of a 1-inch dome tweeter to deliver higher levels of realism. The Motion series is priced less than the company’s electrostatic speakers.

The new Motion XT speakers play louder, lower and with greater accuracy than the other models in the series, thanks to larger high-excursion black aluminum-dome woofers, larger cabinets and a new Folded Motion XT tweeter, the company said. The tweeter boasts a radiating surface that’s 40 percent larger than other Motion-series speakers.

A dedicated mid-woofer on the Motion 60XT is said to deliver more open and revealing midrange.

All come with angled-top cabinets with soft radius corners and perforated grilles.

Additional refinements include custom five-way bi-wire tool-less binding posts and reinforced solid internal bracing to eliminate internal resonances and standing waves.
