Cambridge Audio Expands Bluetooth Speakers

London — High-performance component-audio supplier Cambridge Audio plans to expand its selection of Bluetooth speakers to three from one.

Two are AC/DC portables, and one is AC-only for use around the house. Compared with an existing portable Bluetooth speaker, the two new portables add NFC, AptX streaming over Bluetooth, improved sonics and USB charging of mobile devices.

The portable Go at $179 and the AC-only Bluetone 100 at $299 ship in September, and the $199 portable Go Radio ships in November.

The next-generation Go and the Go Radio, which is a Go with FM radio, feature rechargeable battery life of 18 hours, retention of eight Bluetooth devices in memory and improved drivers. The Go Radio adds three FM station presets.

Both portables feature five drivers, DSP to create “big sound,” and rear-firing bass radiator to deliver louder bass.

The Bluetone 100 features 100-watt Class D amplifier, DSP, AptX, 33-meter range, and two 4-inch wide-dispersion BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) flat-panel drivers.

They combine elements of flat-panel and traditional pistonic-driver design to deliver wider frequency response, wider dispersion and a wider sweet spot compared to traditional drivers while overcoming the lack of bass in other flat-panel designs, the company said.

In wireless speakers, the company also offers the AC-only Minx Air 100 and 200, launched in 2013 with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, AirPlay and Internet radio streaming. The speakers also stream music from UPnP- and DLNA-equipped PCs and servers when used with the Minx Air control app and with a UPnP control app installed on a mobile device.

Cambridge products are marketed in the U.S. by Levin Consulting of Beachwood, Ohio.
