Bowers & Wilkins Brings Bluetooth On

North Reading, Mass. — High-end speaker maker Bowers & Wilkins entered the Bluetooth speaker market with a portable AC/DC model available this month at $349.

The company also offers two AirPlay speakers with Wi-Fi and two AirPlay speakers with Wi-Fi and iPod/iPhone-dock.

The T7 with exterior honeycomb structure will be sold initially through B&W dealers and online partners Amazon, Magnolia and Crutchfield, a spokesperson said.

The speaker is about the size of a hardcover book and features AptX streaming over Bluetooth, two 2-inch active drivers, two force-canceling high-output bass radiators that extend low frequencies response, high-performance DACs, digital signal processing, and two filterless class D amplifiers said to deliver “smooth and open high frequencies, intelligible midrange frequencies and tight bass.”

The Micro Matrix honeycomb structure braces the speaker to reduce cabinet resonance.

The rechargeable lithium-ion battery lasts for up to 18 hours at normal listening levels.

To launch the speaker around the globe, Bowers & Wilkins will initiate a year-long Instagram campaign “to celebrate the T7 experience through new owners who submit videos and images of how and where they use their new T7.”
