T-Mobile Family Plan Offers 10GB LTE Per Person

Bellevue, Wash. – A new T-Mobile family plan available July 15 gives each family member 10GB of LTE data without sharing and with unlimited talk and text at a cost of $100 for two users.

The cost for each additional family member is $20 more per person, also entitling each person to 10GB of LTE data. For a limited time through Sept. 7, a fourth line can be added for free.

The plan significantly increases the amount of LTE data compared to some of the carrier’s existing family plans and eschews unlimited LTE data available in another family plan..

All current and new customers are eligible up for the plan.

“With T-Mobile’s latest move, each and every family member gets 10GB of 4G LTE data per person – no sharing required,” the company said in criticizing other carriers’ data-share plans.

The new family plan also includes the company’s Music Freedom, Wi-Fi calling and texting, and Data Stash features as well as voice, text, and LTE usage in Mexico and Canada at no extra cost.

“It’s no surprise Verizon’s spent what looks to be over $100 million in just two months promoting an $80 data plan with 10GB everyone has to share,” said T-Mobile chairman/CEO John Legere. “The catch is, it’s not actually an $80 plan. You can’t actually use any of that data until you pay additional ‘line access’ fees for data you’ve already bought.” As a result, he said, “when they say $80, they actually charge a family of four at least $140. And that’s to share 10GB.”

As with other T-Mobile plans, lower speed data is unlimited after the LTE cap is reached.

Every current Simple Choice family can switch to the new plan and keep the plan as long as they stay on it, the carrier said.

The plan rolls out first in T-Mobile stores.
The carrier’s current family plans include a plan offering two lines at $100/month with unlimited voice calling, messaging and data. Each unlimited-data line costs $40/ month. T-Mobile also offers family plans with buckets of data starting at $100/ month for four lines, including 2.5 GB of high-speed data per line on up to $220/ month for unlimited data on four lines. Those were limited-time plans that are now being dropped, through existing users can keep theirs.

The new plan is also a limited-time offer, but T-Mobile didn’t say when it would expire or whether it would be continued.
