MWC16: Freetel’s REI Is A Full-Metal-Jacket Android Smartphone

Freetel, the Japanese cellphone maker that made its U.S. debut at CES, went to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with its first metal-chassis phone. This is also Freetel’s first Android 6.0 Marshmallow phone.

The LTE-equipped phone is the unlocked 5.2-inch REI, positioned like other Freetel phones to deliver high-quality features and design at affordable price points.

The price, though said to be affordable, won’t be announced until it’s available. U.S. availability is expected in the second quarter.

The phone features aluminum back cover in a choice of four colors. The metal wraps around the sides, which feature a diamond-cut design.

Key features include 5.2-inch 1080p screen, octacore processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, MicroSD slot, 13- and 8-megapixel cameras and a 2,800 mAh battery.

The company, founded in 2012, unveiled three U.S.-market phones at CES. It offers a mix of Android and Windows 10 Mobile phones.
