Chicago – Motorola brought its price for an unlocked LTE smartphone down to $149 with the launch of the second-generation Moto E.
The phone, which is the lowest priced Motorola LTE smartphone at time of launch, has begun rolling out to 50 countries, including the U.S., through Motorola’s web site. A 3G HSPA+ version will be available at $119.
Besides adding LTE, the second-generation Moto E offers multiple upgrades over its predecessor, including Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor compared to 1.2GHz dual core, 4.5-inch quarter-HD 540 by 960 display compared to 4.3-inch quarter HD, 8GB memory versus 4GB, and main-camera 720p 30fps video capture versus 30fps FWVGA capture, and bigger battery at 2390mAh versus 1980 mAh to deliver all-day mixed use,
Other key features include 1GB RAM; Gorilla Glass 3; Bluetooth 4.0 LE; microSD Card slot; 5-megapixel main camera, like before; VGA front camera; and such main-camera features as HDR and f2.2 lens.
Like its predecessor, it also features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.
The U.S. version features quad-band GSM/EDGE and HSPA+ in the 850/1900MHz and AWS bands. In LTE mode, it operates in the U.S. 850/1900MHz, AWS and AT&T and small-carrier 700MHz LTE bands.
