Overland Park, Kan. — Sprint introduced new features to prepaid plans, unveiling a live TV service for its Boost Mobile prepaid brand and launching a data rollover plan exclusively for consumers who activate Sprint-brand prepaid service through Best Buy.
The live TV service makes Boost the only prepaid brand offering live TV, the company said. The Rolling Data plan is the first data rollover plan for Sprint-brand prepaid service, and it’s not available through Sprint-brand stores.
Through Boost, Sprint launched BoostTV, a video-streaming service that, with a $10/month BoostTV Live Sports add-on, lets consumers watch live and on-demand sports content, including the upcoming Copa America, exclusively on BeIN Sports on a Boost Mobile smartphone. BoostTV offers baseball, basketball, boxing, soccer and other sports through the following channels: AyM Sports, Azteca America, BeIN Sports, BeIN Sports en Español, Fightbox, Latin American Sports and TyC.
Free on-demand programming is also available through BoostTV, including news, fashion, music and the like. See the Boost website.
The BoostTV app is currently available for select Boost Mobile Android smartphones, including HTC Desire, LG Tribute, Motorola E, Samsung Galaxy Prevail LTE, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy S6. More devices will feature the service at a later date.
The sports programming is also available to Sprint-brand service users at $9.99/month via the Sprint TV & Movies app. The app also offers free and premium content, including live and on-demand, with access to primetime shows, news and kids programming.
For purchasers of Sprint-brand prepaid service, the new BestBuy-exclusive Rolling Data plan is a limited-time offer available to purchasers of Sprint prepaid unlimited talk and text plans at $35, $45 and $55. Those plans include 1GB, 3GB and 6GB of rolling data, respectively.
In comparing its rollover plan to rollover plans available with AT&T- and T-Mobile-brand prepaid service, Sprint pointed out that Sprint Prepaid customers can store up to 30GB of unused data with no expiration, but AT&T GoPhone unused data expires after 30 days, while unused data on T-Mobile’s Simple Choice Prepaid plans expires after 12 months. In addition, AT&T GoPhone plans offer data rollover only with $45 and $60 plans. T-Mobile Simple Choice Prepaid customers must purchase 3GB or more of 4G LTE data to qualify for rollover data, Sprint added.
