Cupertino, Calif. – The iSight camera on some iPhone 6 Plus’ smartphones needs a corrective lens.
Following months of complaints by some customers, Apple admitted that “a small percentage” of iPhone 6 Plus phones, bought mainly between September 2014 and January 2015, take fuzzy photos.
Consumers whose phones bear select serial numbers are eligible for a free rear-camera replacement, Apple said on a web-site support page. The camera can be replaced for up to three years from its retail purchase.
“The iSight camera has a component that may fail causing your photos to look blurry,” Apple said. “The affected units fall into a limited serial number range and were sold primarily between September 2014 and January 2015.”
Consumers can take their phone to an authorized service center or an Apple store, or they can contact Apple technical support. Wireless carriers are not participating in the service program.
Consumer complains began appearing on Apple’s community support page last October.
