Although it tipped its hand on entering the LCD/Blu-ray Disc combo market with a pair of models in early 2008, Sharp said it will use 2009 International CES to reveal a full assortment of Blu-ray combo models.

Sharp's U.S. team is modifying the direction its parent showed in introducing a range of Aquos DX series LCD/Blu-ray Disc recorders in Japan, by offering five versions that substitute Blu-ray players for the recorders.

The U.S. Aquos combos are positioned in the BD60 and BD80 model series.

Three larger-screen models make up the BD80 line, including the 52-inch LC-52BD80U, 46-inch LC-46BD80U and 42-inch LC-42BD80U. All offer Full HD 1080p resolution, four HDMI inputs and include Fine Motion Enhanced technology for 120Hz frame rate conversion.

The 52- and 46-inch models are scheduled to ship this month at prices to be announced. The LC-42BD80U is shipping now at a $1,899 suggested retail.

The BD60 series features two smaller-screen 720p HD versions in the LC-37BD60U and LC-32BD60U; both are shipping this month at prices to be announced, and each includes three HDMI inputs.

In addition to offering the integrated convenience of an all-in-one home-theater solution, all of the Blu-ray combo units include a new Superlucent Advanced Super View (ASV) panel, which is said to offer dramatically brighter and crisper pictures.

The Superlucent ASV panel smoothes the surface of the panel and controls the external light, intensifying the panel brightness and contrast.

All models employ a slim frame with the company's new Aquos Blue design, illuminating the bottom of the frame with a blue accent.
