Milipitas, Calif. - SanDisk has introduced its first solid-state
drive, the SanDisk Extreme.
The Extreme is an internal drive for use in laptops and
desktops, the company said.
The Extreme is now available two capacities -- 120GB and
240GB -- with respective suggested pricing of $189 and $399. A 480GB version
will ship later this year with a $749 suggested retail.
SanDisk claimed a PC equipped with an Extreme SSD will boot
in 16 seconds and that it is up to 10 times faster than a 7,200 rpm hard disk
drive.
