El Segundo, Calif. – DirecTV and Samsung are teaming up on a marketing initiative to cross-promote Samsung HDTVs and DirecTV set-top boxes and standard and high-defintion television services.
The effort was said to be part of “an extensive $15 million marketing campaign to support DirecTV HDTV programming and Samsung equipment offers,” the company’s said.
New customers who subscribe to the “NFL Sunday Ticket” and DirecTV HD programming packages will receive four free months of the Total Choice Premier with Local Channels programming package and six free months of the DirecTV HD programming package, a $429.81 total value).
The Sunday Ticket package this year offers more than 100 games in high-definition.
In addition, new customers who purchase a Samsung HDTV monitor for $999 and above will receive an instant rebate of $100 off any Samsung- DirecTV HD receiver or the DirecTV HD DVR. The DirecTV programming offers, combined with the Samsung HD equipment offer, gives new customers a savings of more than $500.
Existing DirecTV customers are offered $100 off of a Samsung-DirecTV HD receiver if they purchase any Samsung HDTV monitor over $999, and will also receive six months of the DirecTV HD Package (a $65.94 value) and three months of Showtime Unlimited, including Showtime HD (a $36 value), for free. This is a total savings of more than $200.
The offers are running now through Oct. 30, 2004, and will be promoted through direct mail, on-air spots, point-of-purchase displays and integrated on-line advertising.
In a related announcement, Samsung Electronics announced a new partnership with Harman Multimedia through which Harman is developing JBL audio systems for select models of Samsung flat-panel and microdisplay televisions.
Under the deal, JBL will provide audio systems for Samsung products including plasma televisions in screen sizes ranging from 42W-inch to 70W-inch, LCD televisions in screen sizes ranging from 22W- to 54W-inches, and 50W-inch DLP rear-projection televisions.
“The relationship between Samsung and Harman offers an opportunity to add additional value to Samsung’s rapidly-growing plasma, LCD, and DLP projection TVs,” said Sung-Ho Jun, Samsung Visual Display Division sales and marketing VP.
