Los Angeles -
Samsung and Best Buy have pledged to donate up to $500,000 to support
entertainer Jennifer Lopez's Maribel Foundation.
The nonprofit
organization, co-founded by Lopez, is dedicated to improving the health and
well-being of women and children, and raising the level of medical care
available to them.
To raise the funds, a portion of the proceeds
from the purchase of select Samsung products at all Best Buy stores from Oct.
16-29 are being earmarked for the foundation. Maribel will use the monies to help
increase the number of telemedicine clinics in the U.S. Samsung is supporting
the effort through its Hope for Children philanthropic initiative, which has
helped more than 400 schools, community-based foundations, and charities
throughout the U.S. raise awareness of and funding for their causes.
Lopez and her
sister, broadcaster and Maribel co-founder and executive director Lynda Lopez,
will join executives from Best Buy and Samsung at an Oct. 25 press event at a
Best Buy store in West Hollywood to discuss the in-store promotion. The first
200 fans in line for the event will receive a Jennifer Lopez-autographed CD.
