San Francisco - Research In Motion (RIM) unveiled a unified OS for future smartphones and tablets, said to combine the best attributes of its BlackBerry smartphone OS and the QNX tablet OS.

BlackBerry BBX OS will support future BlackBerry cloud services, native and HTML5 apps, more advanced graphics, and so-called "Super App" capabilities, such as deep integration between apps, always-on push services, the planned BBM Social Platform for social networking, and other capabilities.

For the OS, applications can be developed using any of the developer tools available today for the BlackBerry PlayBook, RIM said. The tools include Native SDK, Adobe AIR/Flash and WebWorks/HTML5, as well as the BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps.
