World Wide Stereo Aids Philly Theater Group

Hatfield, Pa. – Pennsylvania A/V specialty chain World Wide Stereo helped raise $40,000 for Philadelphia’s Pig Iron Theatre Company at a recent musical fund-raiser.

Proceeds from event, held at Philly’s historic Trocadero Theater, will provide programming and support for the award-winning independent theater company.

World Wide, based here, joined panoply of special guests for the “rock-n-roll/cabaret” benefit on Feb. 2.

“We are thrilled to continue to support the arts in Philadelphia,” said World Wide president Bob Cole. “It is our hope that the success of this event continues to enhance the cultural life and vitality of our beloved hometown.”

Founded in 1995 as an interdisciplinary ensemble, Pig Iron is dedicated to the creation of “new and exuberant performance works that defy easy categorization,” the troupe said.

In the past 16 years the company has created 24 original works and toured festivals and theaters in England, Scotland, Poland, Lithuania, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Romania and Germany. Pig Iron has won several OBIE Awards for their productions, and has been named Theatre Company of the Year by Philadelphia Weekly.

The company made Philadelphia its permanent home in 1997 and premieres all its original works there.
