Walmart To Open New HQ In Bentonville

Walmart will open new headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., in order to better streamline its operations.

According to Walmart Stores president/CEO Doug McMillon, the retailer was forced over the years to open a “patchwork” of more than 20 buildings in northern Arkansas to keep up with its growth. The new building will bring all of these buildings into one facility, resulting in fewer expenses and greater efficiency.

Between 14,000 to 17,000 employees will work in the new HQ, Walmart spokesman Randy Hargrove told TWICE. The company already has buildings on the 350-acre tract of land, including a 1.9 million-square-foot distribution center. It is working to ensure disruptions will be minimal, said Hargrove, and will open the facility in phases, with the first phase being a new fitness center.

The new facility will be upgraded for a “digitally native workforce,” said McMillon. And since Apple isn’t the only retailer concerned with building enviro-friendly workspaces, it will be integrated with the local trail system for walking and cycling access. The CEO also touted such employee-wooing benefits as meal services and better parking.

The new HQ is estimated to take anywhere from five to seven years to complete.
