Target Fixes Checkout Glitch

Minneapolis — Target has corrected a payment system outage that reduced its checkout process to a crawl on Sunday.

The glitch, which affected stores nationwide, led to long lines and angry postings on Facebook and Twitter. Staffers in some stores mollified customers with snacks and coupons, according to published reports.

The discounter said the problem was unrelated to the massive data breech in December that led to the resignation of its chairman, president and CEO Gregg Steinhafel.

“We’ve identified a checkout issue at select stores,” the company acknowledged on its Twitter account at 1:06 a.m. this morning. “The issue is not related to security and is being resolved. We apologize to those impacted.”

By 1:22 a.m. Target reported that the issue had been resolved.
