Holiday M-Commerce Hits 60% At Amazon

Seattle — Early holiday reports of increased mobile shopping were confirmed last week by e-commerce king Amazon.com.

On the day after Christmas the No. 1 e-tailer released a flurry of holiday facts and figures. Chief among them: Nearly 60 percent of its customers shopped using a mobile device this holiday, and channel traffic accelerated as the season progressed.

Underscoring the data point, Amazon reported that holiday sales from its mobile app doubled in the U.S. this year, and that Cyber Monday remains the company’s peak mobile shopping day, although mobile sales grew fastest on Black Friday.

On the product front, the cyber store described its Fire TV Stick as the fastest-selling Amazon device ever, and its Fire TV set-top box as the best-selling streaming media box this season.

Fire tablets and e-readers also performed well, with sales of the former tripling, and sales of the latter quadrupling, year-over-year on Black Friday.

The company also included its Amazon Basics line of HDMI cable among its list of holiday best-sellers.

Among non-Amazon devices:

*top-selling TVs included Samsung’s 32- and 40-inch 1080p 60Hz smart LED TVs and LG’s 42-inch 1080p 60Hz LED TV;

*top-selling computers included three Chromebooks – Acer’s C720 (11.6-inches, 2GB RAM); Asus’s 13-inch model with Gigabit Wi-Fi (16GB storage, 2GB RAM); and HP’s 11-2010nr (11.6-inches) in white, and;
