hhgregg Joins Thanksgiving Openings

Indianapolis — hhgregg said it will open its doors at 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

The retailer will then shut its doors at midnight and reopen at 7 a.m. on Black Friday, putting its strategy in line with many other CE chains for the holiday weekend.

Doorbusters will include an iPad Air for $299, a 60-inch LG HDTV for $488, and Toshiba tablets for $59. It will also have a 40-inch smart TV for $178 and washers starting at $199, although specific brands weren’t provided.

hhgregg will also begin a 10-day promotion beginning Nov. 20 that offers up to 40 percent off storewide.

“We’re doing things differently this year,” said Dennis May, CEO of hhgregg. “We’re offering more doorbusters than ever, free delivery on our major appliances [over $497] and big savings before the shopping frenzy begins. This means that consumers who are wanting a deal but are not interested in Thanksgiving or Black Friday lines can shop hhgregg as early as Nov. 20 for unbeatable prices on the brands they love.”

Other CE retailers opening on Thanksgiving include Best Buy, Walmart, Kmart, Target and Sears, while BJ’s, Costco, P.C. Richard & Son, GameStop and Sam’s Club have pledged to stay closed. RadioShack will open at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving but will then close from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
