Canon, Adorama Hold DSLR Launch Event

New York — Canon teamed with leading digital imaging dealer Adorama last month to help kick off the company’s latest top-end consumer DSLR.

The EOS 7D Mark II, introduced to the trade earlier this fall, made its area debut at an off-site reception here, which drew more than 1,300 customers and a slew of celebrities.

On hand for the event were sports legends Boomer Esiason, Darryl Dawkins, John Starks and Lawrence Taylor, as well as Sports Illustrated staff photographer Peter Read Miller and Canon technical educator Rudy Winston who made special presentations.

The keynote speaker was David Bergman, official tour photographer for the band Bon Jovi, whose namesake co-founder, Jon Bon Jovi, tagged along for an unannounced appearance.

“The partnership of Canon and Adorama proved that the interest in photography is as exciting as ever,” said Canon account executive Carl Brown.

Ahron Schachter, Adorama’s senior VP of business development and merchandising, added that “We were very excited to have the opportunity to team up with Canon to put on such an engaging and unique event.”

Guests were treated to raffles, special deals, ticket giveaways, and an early, hands-on look at the EOS 7D Mark II, which features a 20.2MP CMOS sensor, high-speed continuous shooting up to 10fps, HD video, and Canon’s Intelligent Viewfinder II.

Adorama ranked eighth on TWICE’s Top 25 Digicam & Camcorder Retailers report, with $187 million in imaging sales. In total, the Manhattan dealer pulled in $213 million in CE and IT sales last year, putting it at No. 42 on the TWICE Top 100 CE Retailers ranking.

Schachter said Adorama is already planning its annual summer street fair, which attracted over 20,000 attendees last June.
