C&A Buys Calumet Photographic

Ridgefield Park, N.J. — C&A Marketing, a digital imaging manufacturer, distributor and reseller, has acquired the U.S. assets of the Calumet Photographic retail chain.

Calumet, a storied TWICE Top 100 CE retailer with operations in Europe, filed for Chapter 7 liquidation and shut its 14-store domestic business in March.

C&A, which produces Polaroid-licensed cameras and accessories, bought the chain in a bankruptcy auction, as it did two years ago with Ritz Camera.

The company said it is evaluating which, if any, of Calumet’s 14 stores to re-open, but plans to relaunch all of its online properties and rental business in the coming weeks.

Said C&A president Harry Klein, “We know what didn’t work for Calumet and we know what’s working for Ritz and Polaroid and our other imaging-related entities and we are prepared to invest the time and capital to rebuild.”
