B&H Photo Adds Installer Locator

New York — B&H Photo, the Manhattan-based pro and consumer imaging and CE specialty retailer, has added an installer-finder to its website.

The widget, when selected following an online transaction, alerts local participating installers to the purchase and the customer’s location, and requests an estimate and time frame for the requested job.

The plug-in is provided by social marketplace EZBZ, which connects consumers with qualified local businesses and services in real time. The company, founded in 2011 by CEO Shana Schlossberg, positions itself as “a simple, efficient and affordable” alternative to for-pay service platforms like Angie’s List.

The company now also competes with a similar home services marketplace that was launched by Amazon.com in March.

“EZBZ is all about connecting people with their local service providers. Partnering with B&H will immediately expose thousands of local installation providers to a brand new stream of opportunities and create a win-win at the local level,” Schlossberg said.

B&H’s IT and business development director Shia Meisels added: “B&H prides itself as the most trusted source for all forms of electronics throughout the U.S. An innovative solution to assist our customers in getting their purchases up and running after the product arrives is a most welcome initiative. EZBZ’s technology does just that.”

B&H is the nation’s 29th largest CE retailer with $381 million in sales last year according to the latest TWICE Top 100 Report. Since its founding in 1973, B&H has become a central player in the New York-metro area CE scene, and maintains an even larger presence online, ranking 13th in TWICE’s Top 20 E-tailers rankings, ahead of GameStop, Sam’s Club, QVC and Staples.

The business is closely held by principal Herman Schreiber (the “H” in B&H), and caters to a pro and consumer crowd with photo and video production equipment, A/V gear, home theater and whole-home system displays, and workshops and seminars held out of its lone two-story superstore on Manhattan’s Ninth Avenue.

Renowned for its unique overhead track system that pulls purchased items from inventory and ferries them to the checkout area, B&H is a past winner of a TWICE Excellence in Retailing Award and last year joined the ProSource buying group as its 17th power member.
