Better Late Than Never: H-E-B Launches 1st E-Commerce Site

H-E-B, the South Texas grocery and general merchandise chain, has come of age by launching its first transactional website.

The e-ecommerce operation, located at HEB.com, offers some 50,000 food, drugstore and general merchandise items for sale, including a sizeable selection of CE. The latter includes computers and tablets, video gaming, music players, phones, cameras, TV and home theater, and power.

“Now, even if you move outside of Texas, you’ll still have a ‘neighborhood’ H-E-B just a click away,” said chief financial officer and chief merchant Martin Otto.

Orders are shipped in one to three days and can be sent throughout Texas and to 46 states (excluding California, Alaska and Hawaii). Shipping fees vary but average $5 to $10 per order, the chain said.

Under the retailer’s “no hassle” return policy, any product ordered online can be returned to any H-E-B store for a full refund, or sent back to HEB.com using free shipping.

H-E-B was named 2012 Retailer of the Year by CE/IT distributor New Age Electronics, which it recognized as “a top player in the consumer electronics industry.”

The company operates more than 370 stores in Texas and Mexico, including a chain of H-E-B Plus superstores that it describes as a one-stop shop for CE, toys, housewares, apparel and outdoor products.
