Best Buy Sets $900 Samsung UHD TV As BF Lead

Minneapolis — Holiday 2014 is starting to heat up.

Best Buy, the industry’s tone-setting 600-pound gorilla, has taken a swipe at competitors and Ultra HD TV pricing by offering a 55-inch Samsung 4K model for $900 Thanksgiving weekend.

Also sending price points swooning is a 50-inch 1080p Panasonic LED TV, described as a Best Buy exclusive, that will sale for $200 during the Black Friday period.

The chain’s Black Friday plans, revealed this morning, also include a new timing tack: Stores will open at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day; will close by 1 a.m. that night; and will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday morning.

The Thursday afternoon and Friday morning store openings will each be accompanied by a separate wave of doorbuster deals.

Customers have already begun queueing up outside Best Buy stores, the chain reported, in hopes of securing some of the limited-quantity deals.

Sensitive to the growing pushback on Thanksgiving Day sales, Best Buy issued the following statement:

“While we recognize the decision to open on Thanksgiving affects Best Buy employees, customers have made it clear that many of them want to begin shopping on Thanksgiving evening. In recent years, millions of Americans have shopped on Thanksgiving, and our store associates are excited and prepared to help customers fulfill their holiday wish lists. Most Thanksgiving evening shifts are filled by employees who volunteer to work. All hourly store employees who work on Thanksgiving will, of course, receive holiday pay.”

Best Buy will also provide online-only “doorbuster” pricing all day on Thanksgiving.

The full list of Best Buy’s Black Friday specials can be viewed in the company’s officially sanctioned preview ad, here.
