Amazon Extends Prime Video To Android Phones

Seattle — Members of Amazon.com’s step-up Prime service tier can now access the e-tailer’s vast library of free streaming videos via their Android phones.

Prime Instant Video had already been available through select iPhones, iPods and iPads, as well as PCs, tablets, game consoles, Roku, select TVs and Blu-ray players, and the e-tailer’s own Fire tablet, phone and media player.

Access on Android phones requires an updated Amazon App for Android, and a Prime Instant Video app that’s available exclusively at the Amazon Appstore.

Prime Instant Video provides unlimited streaming of tens of thousands of movies and TV episodes, including last spring’s addition of select HBO content.

“We are always innovating on behalf of our customers, and we look forward to receiving their feedback on this enhanced shopping experience,” said mobile shopping director Paul Cousineau.

Amazon Prime provides expedited shipping and “free” access to an expansive library of music, video content and books for $99 a year.

Separately, Seeking Alpha reports that Amazon’s August comp sales rose 45.1 percent, up from 40.4 percent in July, continuing a year-to-date trend of monthly year-over-year increases, according to e-tail services provider ChannelAdvisor.
