Carmel, Ind. - RCA announced Wednesday that its Symphonix personal sound amplifier, model RPSA10, is currently available at RadioShack.

The rechargeable Symphonix is designed to help users hear better in a variety of situations. Suggested retail is $299. One size is offered that reportedly fits most men and women and works in either ear.

According to RCA, which is a brand of Audiovox, the Symphonix provides smooth amplification and background noise reduction over a wide range of frequencies. The device, which uses patented thin sound tubes, features a three-step progressive volume control and on/off switch in the earpiece. It's said to weigh less than ¼ of an ounce and doesn't interfere with cellphones.

A storage and charging base is included. Symphonix delivers up to 15 hours of service on a full charge, RCA said.
