A memorial service will be held in Tokyo, June 11, for Seiya Matsumoto, 70, Pioneer chairman, who died May 1.

Matsumoto, who was the eldest son of Pioneer founder Nozomu Matsumoto, was responsible for Pioneer's extensive involvement in laserdisc players and disc replication. He joined the company in 1952, was named president in 1982 and chairman in 1996. Matsumoto served as executive director of EIA-Japan and was awarded Japan's Medal of Honor in recognition of his contribution to the industry. Survivors include his wife, Mie, and two sons, Satoshi and Hitoshi.
