William Cho: The Man Who Made LG An OLED TV Leader

Although 2014 offered no shortage of exciting new advances in television technologies, a clear standout among the field was big-screen OLED displays, which took on new dimensions under watch of LG Electronics.

According company staffers, the technology’s champion and chief marketing architect for the next wave of the U.S. OLED TV launch is William Cho, LG Electronics USA president and CEO, who made OLED TV a top priority in brand marketing and promotion upon his arrival last January.

Cho provides strategic direction for LG’s activities in the United States, encompassing home entertainment products, home appliances, and air conditioning and energy solutions, as well as related service and support activities.

Cho is described as a seasoned executive with broad experience leading sales subsidiaries and managing complex business units around the world.

Cho originally joined LG Electronics in 1987 and has held a variety of key positions, including eight years in Europe.

Cho is said to be a firm believer in strong product leadership and exceptional quality, which he emphasized as the drivers for sustained LG brand equity and customer loyalty.

He stressed finding “the right product strategy” and the importance of execution and time-to-market with professionalism and accountability.

Cho is known as a “hands-on executive” with extensive customer relationships, deep product knowledge and broad-based industry experience. These attributes helped drive the OLED TV go-to-market strategy for key U.S. retailers.

He spearheaded LG’s aggressive marketing initiatives that helped raise awareness of OLED technology, including the “LG Art of the Pixel” intercollegiate new-media art competition and gala.

Cho motivated his team to bring LG’s second-generation OLED TVs to market in 2014, including the industry’s first 4K Ultra HD TVs, while setting the stage for an even greater emphasis on the technology in 2015.
