Staples President Leaving In February

Framingham, Mass. – Staples’ president/COO Michael Miles Jr. is leaving after 10 years with the No. 1 office supply chain for a position with investment firm Berkshire Partners.

No successor was named.

In announcing Miles’ resignation, effective Feb. 2, Staples chairman/CEO Ron Sargent thanked him for his leadership and service. “Mike brought new energy to our brand, drove growth in our services business, and restructured and integrated our international operations. We wish him all the best.”

“I want to express my gratitude to the Staples team around the world for their support and partnership over the past 10 years,” Miles said. “It has been a privilege to be part of this great company.”

Miles joined Staples in 2003 as COO, with responsibility for U.S. retail, including the marketing, merchandising and supply chain, and real estate functions. He was promoted to president/COO in 2006 and most recently had responsibility for all of Staples’ North American and international businesses, as well as its brands group, corporate advertising and public relations.

Before joining Staples, Miles was COO of Yum! Brands’ Pizza Hut division. He joined Pizza Hut via PepsiCo, which he joined in 1993 as strategic planning VP before moving to its Pizza Hut unit in 1994 as a division VP. Before that he worked at Bain and Co., the Boston–based management consulting firm.
