Sprint has named mobile-industry veteran Jim Hyde president of its prepaid group, succeeding Dow Draper.

Draper in turn was named CEO of Virgin Mobile USA, and charged with launching new initiatives for the no-contract brand.

Hyde, a former managing director of T-Mobile UK, joins Sprint from Virginia mobile provider nTelos Wireless, where he was president and director.

In his new post, Hyde is responsible for developing and driving the company’s prepaid strategy and business across the Boost Mobile and Sprint Prepaid platforms, as well as the legacy Virgin Mobile business. He will also manage the relationships with Sprint’s wholesale and mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) customers.
