LG Shakes Up Top Management

Seoul, South Korea – LG shook up top management and merged its home appliance and air-solution businesses.

The changes include a new head of LG Mobile Communications, the newly created position of executive VP/CEO of LG’s overseas sales and marketing company, and the new position of executive VP/CEO of the LG Home Entertainment Co.

All new appointments are effective Dec. 1, and promotions will take effect Jan. 1.

Among the changes, Juno Cho, president of LG Corp., LG Electronics’ holding company, will become president/CEO of the LG Mobile Communication Co. Current president/CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park moves into the newly created position of chief technology advisor. Cho previously led LG’s mobile business strategy and sales and marketing for North America from 2001 to 2007. Bong-suk Kwon, head of LG Corp.’s Synergy division, will be promoted to executive VP/CEO of the LG Home Entertainment Co., having previously headed up the home-entertainment company’s monitor business. He was responsible for elevating LG to the top position in the LED monitor market, LG said. He was also involved in the development of the company’s G series smartphones as head of LG’s product planning division in the LG Mobile Communications Co.

Seong-jin Jo, president/CEO of the LG Home Appliance Co., will assume responsibility of the newly created Home Appliance and Air Solution (H&A) Co. The two businesses are being merged to “strengthen the company’s ability to provide total solutions for the home based on LG’s proprietary core technologies,” LG said.

To strengthen innovation and marketing, LG announced several changes. One is the assumption by global sales and marketing officer Wayne Park to the new title of executive VP/CEO of LG’s Overseas Sales and Marketing Co., which oversees 53 of LG’s sales subsidiaries worldwide.

In addition, LG CTO Dr. Scott Ahn will take on the additional role of head of LG’s Innovation Business Center “to identify and develop new business areas based on future technologies.”

Other changes are designed to strengthen LG’s competitiveness in the B-to-B sector. Hwan-yong Noh, current president/CEO of the LG Air Conditioning and Energy Solution Co. will take on the new role of B-to-B officer to improve LG’s standing in the commercial sector, which includes information displays, commercial air conditioning systems, and energy-related initiatives. Executive VP Sang-bong Lee will lead the LG Energy Business Center, a new division created from three existing businesses: Solar, Lighting and Energy Storage System (ESS).
