John Hollands, Longtime Industry Personality, Dies at 87

John Henry Hollands, who started his career at Westinghouse in 1954 and retired as a Sony exec in 1989, passed away Friday at the age of 87.

A veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the Air Force, Hollands started his CE career with Westinghouse Electrics’ TV-Radio division in 1954. He assumed the position of chairman of BSR in 1965 and served in that position until 1982. He was hired as president of Sony Magnetic Products in 1982 and ascended to executive VP of Sony Corporation of America in 1989, a position he held until his retirement.

He was an alumnus of Cornell University.

Holland was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Helen Louise, his parents, Henry and Eloise, and his sister, Mary Provin.

He is survived by his children, Wendy Hollands of Greensboro, N.C., Robert Hollands and his wife Helen of Gilbert, Ariz., Kathryn Zintel and her husband Scott of Warwick, N.Y., and Christine Tokish and her husband Len of Ramsey, N.J. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jeffrey, Sarah, Russell, Daniel, Nicholas, Hannah, Julia, and Olivia.
