Industry Comes To Aid Of 12-Volt Veteran Hutto

Arvada, Colo. — The Mobile Electronics Specialists Association (MESA) raised more than $100,000 at its fall summit early this month to help pay for a lung-transplant operation and medical treatment for 12-volt industry veteran Dean Hutto.

The check was presented to Hutto on Sept. 24.

Hutto began his career in the 12-volt industry in 1985 at Kenwood, where he worked until 2004. He later worked for SiriusXM from 2005 to 2014. About two years ago, he was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, which requires a lung transplant.

Hutto, a Denver resident, was attending MESA’s fall summit in Denver when he received word that, after waiting two years, lungs were available for transplanting that night, said MESA executive director Ryan Gunter. Hutto was then driven to the hospital.

To raise money, a dunk tank that MESA set up for its Fall Summit farewell party was turned into a fund-raising event in which members and vendors took turns over the water.

Hunter said Hutto is in high spirits and expected to make a full recovery.

About 160 dealer members and about 40 supplier representatives attended the three-day summit held by the 12-volt buying and marketing-support group.
