Hifonics Founder Helmut Stieglitz Dies

Helmut Stieglitz, the founder of car audio manufacturer Hifonics, died earlier this month.

Stieglitz launched the brand and its first product, the Series 1 amplifier, at the 1980 CES. Products were originally built in South Africa, but manufacturing was moved to the U.S. in 1982. The Hifonics brand was purchased by Maxxsonics USA in 2001.

In a statement, Alden Stiefel, Maxxsonics president and CEO, said: “Helmut was a very smart, friendly and warm person. He often called me to check up on his brand. He loved the Hifonics brand and the people who had come to be passionate about the music it produced.”

“Helmut will be missed,” Stiefel added. “His vision and marketing acumen still drives the strategy of Hifonics today.”

Stieglitz is survived by his wife, Beverly, as well as five children and 10 grandchildren.
