Batter Named Gracenote CEO

Emeryville, Calif. — John Batter, formerly M-Go chief operating officer, has been named Gracenote CEO and Tribune Media Co. executive VP, the companies said Tuesday.

In the move, Christophe Louvion, formerly chief technology officer for M-Go, has been named COO, and will oversee day-to-day leadership of the company. Louvion has driven M-Go’s holistic product and technology strategy since the company’s inception. He will work closely with the entire M-Go executive team, and will be supported by board members from the Technicolor and Dreamworks JV partners, according to a statement from M-Go.

M-Go is a digital movie and TV streaming service created as a joint venture between DreamWorks Animation and Technicolor.

Batter is charged with setting strategic direction and driving growth for Gracenote’s core music and video metadata and technology businesses, as well as leading the company’s day-to-day operations. He will begin his new role at Gracenote on Sept. 2, reporting to Peter Liguori, president and CEO of Tribune Media.

The move was made to help Tribune Media expand its metadata business to meet growing international demand from TV and music customers. Tribune acquired worldwide music leader Gracenote in February, extending the business into music services, automotive infotainment and international markets for TV.

Tribune united Gracenote with Tribune Media Services (TMS), provider of EPG and TV data for North America, Latin America and Europe, and later expanded into India, the Middle East and parts of Asia with the acquisition of What’s-On.

While at M-Go, Batter was credited with helping build the business through partnerships with top consumer electronics companies. He also signed content deals with major Hollywood studios and TV networks. Prior to M-Go, Batter served as president of production at DreamWorks Animation, where he led the company’s worldwide production, post-production, technology and studio finance divisions. He had earlier been general manager of the mobile and studios groups with  Electronic Arts (EA).
