Los Angeles - A recent consumer study by Frank N. Magid
Associates found that a majority of consumers believe 3D significantly improves
their television viewing experience.
The study, which was conducted by the market research firm for Panasonic
at the recent Disney D23 Expo
in Anaheim, Calif., last month, queried more than 500 attendees and found that
99 percent of those surveyed who have seen 3DTV perceive it to be at least
"somewhat better" than standard HDTV or "2D" TV.
Of those surveyed, 71 percent said that 3DTV is "much better" or
"dramatically better" than 2DTV.
"We've always said that, just as with HDTV, once consumers
experience 3DTV, they will want it," said Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, Panasonic North
America's chief technology officer. "This survey proves it. We couldn't be
happier with the results."
The study showed consumers responded with a wide range of
superlatives when asked to describe their thoughts about 3DTV, including "I
wish I had this in my home" (50 percent of those surveyed); it "brings things
alive in a way I've never seen before" (34 percent); and "fabulous" (27
"These are very positive and impressive responses," said Mike
Vorhaus, president of Magid Advisors, a unit of Frank N. Magid Associates. "When
it comes to 3DTV, consumers clearly like what they see. Their feelings are very
reminiscent of the public's response to HDTV in its early days."
