Tualatin, Ore. - Oregon Scientific is entering the tablet market with an Android model targeted to kids.

Oregon Scientific's Meep! Tablet for kids
The personal electronics company unveiled the Wi-Fi-enabled Meep! Tablet, which features a 7-inch color touchscreen and is targeted to children ages 6 and older.

The tablet downloads music, movies, e-books, and apps and browses the web, but parents can monitor and limit children's access to content and web sites via parental controls that can be adjusted remotely from any computer or mobile device with a browser and Internet connection. Content can be downloaded to embedded memory or SD card.

The tablet features a ruggedized design and rubber silicon sleeve. Additional details were unavailable.

Oregon Scientific, which got its start in clock radios and weather stations, also offers electronics in the youth, sports, fitness, and wellness markets. It is a division of Integrated Display Technology (IDT), based in Hong Kong.
