Melville, N.Y. - Nikon is unveiling seven new Coolpix compact digital cameras at the PMA Show in Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 21-23.

This year's models continue Nikon's emphasis on compact body styling, and long zoom lens ranges. This year's offerings continue to add advanced high-resolution image processors and ultra-fast startup and shutter lag times.

All of the new models will also incorporate a suite of core Coolpix automatic features including Smart Portrait, Scene Auto Selector, Motion Detection, Face Priority, Smile Timer and Subject Tracking.

In the Performance Series, Nikon will introduce the P100 (shipping in February at a $399.95 suggested retail) as the replacement for the P90. The P100 offers a 10.3-megapixel back side illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, built-in high dynamic range, 26x (26mm-678mm) zoom lens, 3-inch 460,000 dot LCD screen, dual optical and electronic image stabilization systems, ISO3200 sensitivity, and capture video in full HD 1080p/30fps, 720p/30fps, QVGA/30fps and VGA/30fps in .MOV file format with H.264 compression. The camera will also include a stereo mic and dedicated movie shutter button.

It will also include an advanced night landscape mode, which takes eight consecutive shots and merges them into one image with reduced pixel noise. It will also feature burst shooting of 10 frames per second at full resolution, and a high-speed sports continuous mode that will shoot 120fps at 1-megapixel each to capture peak motion sequences. The P100 will be offered in black.

The S8000, shipping in February at $299.95, is an ultra-thin (27.3mm) camera with 10x (30mm-300mm) zoom, a 3-inch 921,000 dot LCD screen, ISO 3200 sensitivity, and video capture in: HD 720p/30fps, QVGA/30fps and VGA/30fps using the MOV file format and H.264 compression. A dedicated movie button is included.

The startup time is .85 seconds and the shutter release lag is .3 seconds, rivaling the Nikon S640 camera. A sports continuous mode shoots action at 4 fps.

A creative slider control on the S8000 uses the Coolpix rotary mode selector dial to change exposure compensation from +2 to -2, the vividness from monochrome to very vivid, and hue from blue to warm settings. The S8000 will be available in black, sliver, red and bronze.

The S6000, shipping in March at $249.95 suggested retail, will feature 14.2-megapixel resolution, 2.7-inch 230,000 dot LCD screen, 7x zoom lens, optical VR, ISO 3200 sensitivity and video capture at up to HD 720p/30fps resolution in the MOV format with H.264. A dedicated movie button is included. The startup time is 0.75 seconds and shutter lag is 0.3 seconds. The S6000 will be available in black, silver, red and bronze.

The Coolpix S4000, shipping in March at $199.95, replaces the S230 Touch camera, and offers 12-megapixel resolution, a 3-inch 460,000 dot LCD touch screen, HD 720p/30fps video capture in AVI format and H.264 compression. The S4000 will be available in silver, pink, red, plumb or black.

The Coolpix S3000, shipping in February at $149.95, offers an ultra-compact body, 12MP resolution, 2.7-inch 230,000 dot LCD, 4x (27mm-108mm) optical zoom, and electronic image stabilization. The S3000 will be available in plumb, black, green, blue, orange and silver.

In the L Series, Nikon will replace the popular L100 with the L110, shipping in February at $279.95, which features a 15x zoom (28mm-420mm), and five-way VR image stabilization system. Also included is 720p/30fps HD movie capture with stereo sound, a dedicated movie shutter button, a 3-inch 460,000 dot vari-angle LCD screen, and four AA battery power plus an included NiMH battery charger For creative shooting it will include a sports continuous mode of 11.1fps for up to 30 shots.

The L22 (shipping in February at $129.95) will be added as "a true big box camera," offering 12-megapixel resolution, a 3-inch 230,000 dot LCD view screen, 3.6x optical zoom lens, up to ISO 1600 low-light sensitivity and two AA battery power. It ships with a NiMH battery charger.

The L22 will be offered in a choice of red, black, silver and blue.
