Yamaha Launches iPod Speaker Systems

Buena Park, Calif. – Yamaha entered the iPod-docking speaker market in the U.S. with a trio of models available on the company’s Web site and through retailers.

The $199 PDX-30, $399 TSX-12, and $449 TSX-130 are single-chassis systems carrying the Works With iPhone designation. The PDS-X30 is a compact unit with speakers and amplifier. The TSX-120 features FM radio and clock radio functions, and the TSX-130 adds a CD player.

The PDX-30, available in four colors, features two 3.25-inch full-range bass-reflex speakers, card-type remote, a dock on top and 60Hz-20kHz frequency response in a 13.75 by 4.25 by 4.88-inch chassis. AN amplifier rating was unavailable.

The TSX-120 features 30-station preset FM tuner, 2×15-watt amp (into 6 ohms at 1kHz with 10 percent THD), two 3.125-inch full-range speakers, bass-reflex ports on the back, 60Hz-20kHz frequency response, dock on top, wood top panel, mini jack for connecting a portable audio player, four DSP modes, and clock with dual alarm function card-type remote. The chassis measures 13.75 by 4.75 by 9.44 inches.

The TSX-130 features the same specs and performance as the 120 but adds playback of CDs and recordable CDs, playback of MP3- and WMA-encoded CDs, and playback of MP3 and WMA files stored on a connected USB stick or USB-connected portable media player.
