Yamaha Adds Third 7.1-Channel Soundbar

12/10/2010 12:05:00 AM Eastern

Buena Park, Calif. - Yamaha
expanded its selection of 7.1-channel Digital Sound Projector sound bars,
adding a third 7.1-channel model at a lower price point.

YamahaThe $999-suggested YSP-2200, like the $1,899
and $2,199 models launched earlier this year, is 3.5 inches deep and uses
Intellibeam virtual surround processing, which creates focused "beams" of
direct and reflected sound waves to produce virtual 7.1-channel surround sound.
All three also decode DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS High
Resolution, and all feature HDMI 1.4a inputs and outputs that support Blu-ray
and broadcast 3D video formats.

All drivers, amplifiers and surround decoding are
mounted in a single horizontal enclosure that can be mounted to a wall
underneath a flat-panel TV. The new model features 16 drivers.

The new model comes with wired compact
100-watt subwoofer that can be positioned either vertically or horizontally.
The top two models, in contrast, don't include a subwoofer, but they do come
with yAired attachment, unavailable for use with the new model, to connect
wirelessly to any subwoofer.

  The top
two models also come with included yAired accessory package that enables
consumers to stream music wirelessly from a handheld iPod/iPhone to the bars.
In the new soundbar, however, the wireless iPod/iPhone accessory is optional.

yAired is a proprietary technology that
wirelessly streams subwoofer output and iPod/iPhone music in uncompressed PCM
form.

Like the other two models, the new
model features UniVolume technology, which maintains consistent sound levels
when connected video sources are switched, TV channels are changed, and
commercials interrupt a TV program.

Other features of the new model include
compressed music enhancer, four HDMIA 1.4a inputs, one 1.4a output, and a dock
port for adding such optional accessories as the wireless dock system for iPods,
the wired YDS-12 Universal Dock for iPod/iPhones, and the YBA-10 Bluetooth
Wireless Audio Receiver. It lacks the FM tuner that the other two models have.
