XM Appoints New Marketing Exec

Washington — XM appointed Vernon Irvin, a VeriSign executive, to the post of chief marketing officer, as part of a restructuring of the company that began in July.

Irvin was previously executive VP and GM of VeriSign, where he oversaw the launch of VeriSign’s Jamster ringtone business, which had millions of subscribers at its peak. He assumes his new post at XM on Nov.14, where he is charged with leading XM to its next level of subscriber growth, said XM.

Irvin’s appointment follows the appointment in July of Nate Davis as new XM president and COO. That relieved CEO Hugh Panero of the dual role of president and CEO. At the time, the company said the restructuring was to accommodate the growth in subscribers and to reposition XM for future growth.

XM said the new chief marketing officer will oversee XM’s media and brand marketing, retail, direct and partnership marketing, and marketing operations including pricing, retention and research.

Prior to joining VeriSign, Irvin was an executive VP at American Management Systems, an international business and technology consulting company catering to corporations and government agencies.
