Xantech Offers IR-Over-IP Control Line

Indianapolis — Xantech introduced at CEDIA Expo this week its XtraNet line of wired and wireless products for integration into commercial and home A/V systems, allowing control of any device over an installed IP network.

The XtraNet range of products enables native IR, Wi-Fi and serial control of networked A/V devices using any IR remote or wireless, web-enabled iOS or Android device.

The line includes stand-alone devices that separately provide native IR control over installed wired or wireless IP networks. A separate device adds serial control capabilities. A master device provides comprehensive system control where multiple XtraNet devices are combined on a network.

All XtraNet devices are self-configuring when integrated into any wired network.

The XtraNet XLIP200 is a basic IR input and output device that supports native IR input/output over a wired network, to which it interfaces via an RJ-45 connector, and is configured as an input by default.

The XLIP400, configured by default as an output, adds support of up to 128 macros. These macros may be accessed via a web page from any computer, tablet, smartphone or similar smart device connected to the network. Alternatively, users may create personalized control pages for the iPhone or iPad using commercially available third-party apps.

The macros are configured as eight system-wide buttons plus four groups of 30 macro buttons that may be dedicated to specific devices in the A/V system.

The XtraNet XLIP400K kit combines an XLIP400, DL95 universal IR receiver, four 283D IR emitters and a power supply for applications where a stand-alone native IR repeater is required. That control can be expanded over a wired network, into a second room, for example, with the addition of an XLIP200.

The XLIP400K kit also provides the flexibility for customers to either use their cable remote/TV remote or universal IR-based remote, as well as an iPhone or iPad, to access those devices.

For applications where serial control is required, the XLIP232 adds bi-directional RS232 support. The device includes memory for 128 macros and offers both serial and IR connections. Serial commands can be extended to another device through the addition of another XLIP232 unit.

For more complex systems where multiple XtraNet devices are combined, the new XLIP800, which supports serial RS232/422/485, IR, digital I/O, telnet, UDP, relays and other functionality, ties the components together through its serial and IR ports.

The XLIP800 also supports customizable web pages, enabling control access from an iPad, iPhone, Android tablet or Android smartphone via the device’s web browser.

Commands sent from the XLIP800 master unit can additionally trigger macros in any network-attached XLIP400, XLIP 600 or XLIP232 devices, combining all of the units into a single, comprehensive A/V control system.

Paul Starkey, Xantech chief marketing officer, said, “For the first time, there is a comprehensive IR-over-IP product line that provides the contractor and system integrator a complete tool kit to handle any job, from new construction to retro. The XtraNet system is the culmination of our 40 years working in IR, and the XtraLink legacy, which began in the 1980s.”
