Wireless Section Consolidated At Sands For WCE

In a venue revision for the January 5-8 Winter Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, all cellular, paging and wireless communications products will be located at the Sands Expo and Convention Center -- where all computers and peripheral, software, multimedia and related accessory products will also be housed.

At past winter shows the cellular and related wireless products have been located in temporary outdoor pavilions adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center. "Our ultimate goal is to move away from all temporary structures and satellite locations" and make the Convention Centers the two primary WCES show locations, said CES Staff VP Jonathan Thompson.

WCES also currently has displays in the Hilton Hotel exhibition area and at the Sahara hotel. Although the Hilton space, which is next door to the Las Vegas Convention Center, is expected to be retained, upcoming construction may make it impractical to continue using the Sahara location after next year.

Brother Is First To License Tech For Bookman

Franklin Electronic Publishers has reached an agreement to license its Bookman cartridge system to Brother for use in forthcoming SOHO components.

The agreement makes Brother the first hardware manufacturer to license Franklin's electronic book cartridge technology, and gives the Japan-based home office products manufacturer access to Franklin's library of over 30 electronic reference titles on tiny Bookman IC-ROM cartridges.

Current titles include bilingual dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibles and sports, wine and bartender's guides.

Brother will most likely introduce the Bookman slots in word processor models in early 1996, according to a company spokesperson.

Franklin is also shipping this month its first Bookman with a dedicated Pocket Quicken platform (see page 20). However, that title will not be immediately available as an add-on cartridge, the company said.◊[headline]Some New Titles And New Faces In TWICE Staff
