Weedfald Leaving Circuit City

Richmond, Va. — Peter Weedfald is leaving his post as senior VP/chief marketing officer at Circuit City this week.

Weedfald joined the CE chain in August 2006 as senior VP/general merchandise manager and assumed the top marketing job six weeks later following the departure of Fiona Dias.

Weedfald came to Circuit City from Samsung where, as sales and marketing senior VP, he was instrumental in the multimillion dollar marketing and promotional campaigns that thrust the manufacturer into leading market-share positions in many of the categories in which it competes.

During his tenure at the retail chain, he mounted a number of national campaigns to spotlight Circuit City’s Firedog in-home services brand.

In an email to industry colleagues, he noted, “It has been my honor and pleasure to have served so many dynamic, affable and spirited Circuit City leaders throughout our stores, departments and work groups … across our multichannel retail enterprise. I continue to be highly supportive of all our Circuit City associates focused intently on the art of the possible during difficult, hyper-competitive and cloudy economic times.”

Weedfald said his departure comes with the close of Circuit City’s fiscal year. The company has not indicated whether it will fill the CMO post.
Weedfald’s exit is the latest in a recent series of executive changes in Richmond. Last month former Tweeter president/CEO Jeff Stone joined the company in the new role of executive VP for new business development, while John Harlow was named executive VP/COO in January following the departure of multichannel sales executive VP Danny Clark .
