Weedfald Assumes New Circuit City Post Today

Richmond, Va. — Former Samsung sales and marketing executive Peter Weedfald began his first day at Circuit City this morning as senior VP/general merchandise manager for entertainment/content.

He reports to chief merchandising officer and executive VP Doug Moore.

Weedfald, who left Samsung last week as sales and marketing senior VP with continued responsibilities as senior VP of strategic marketing, was instrumental in the multimillion dollar marketing and promotional campaigns that thrust the manufacturer into leading market-share positions in many of the categories in which it competes. He was rewarded for his efforts with a promotion six months ago toSamsung Electronics Corp. executive status in Seoul, Korea, one of only five non-Koreans to share that rank.

D.J. Oh, Samsung Electronics America president/CEO, acknowledged Weedfald’s contribution as “an influential leader within Samsung and the industry [who] successfully developed Samsung’s brand-marketing strategy, commanded our consumer electronics business, orchestrated our Four Seasons of Hope and Hope for Education philanthropic programs, and instilled courage and desire within our organization.”

Samsung has begun a search for Weedfald’s successor. – Additional reporting by Greg Tarr
