WD Bows Dish Network DVR-Compatible HD

Lake Forest, Calif. — Western Digital is offering its My DVR Expander USB Edition 500GB external hard drive, which is compatible with Dish Network’s VIP Series HD DVR.

Once attached, the drive will increase the storage capacity of a Dish HD DVR by storing up to 300 hours of digital standard or up to 60 hours of high-definition television programming.

“With the continued expansion of available HD programming, there is a growing consumer demand for additional storage. The My DVR Expander USB Edition allows Dish customers to record more HD programs without worrying about having to delete their favorite shows,” said Jim Welsh, VP and general manager of WD’s branded products and consumer electronics businesses.

The drive is constructed with a no-fan passive cooling system and an AV-GP hard drive with GreenPower technology. The company said the drive consumes up to one-third less power than standard external hard drives.

WD said further compatibility of the drive is planned as other cable and satellite DVR manufacturers enable the USB ports on their currently deployed DVRs.

The drive is available now at www.shopwd.com for a suggested $149.
