Warner Brothers Opening Catalog To The Web

New York — Warner Bros. and BitTorrent have teamed up to sell movie and TV show downloads over the Internet.

The deal will make about 200 Warner movies available this summer for download using BitTorrent’s Web distribution software. The TV shows will cost about $1, and movies will carry prices similar to those of a just-released DVD. The content will be made available on the day it is put on sale in stores.

Once downloaded, the programming cannot be copied or burned to a disc, but must reside on the computer.

This situation was made possible last November when BitTorrent told the Motion Picture Association of America that it would remove links from its Web site that could be aiding movie piracy. BitTorrent hosts a site where consumers can post videos for others to see for free.
