Bentonville, Ark. – Walmart is rolling out a major upgrade of
its CE department this month.
The additions include back- and edge-lit LED IPTV, streaming
Blu-ray Disc players, a dedicated wireless area, and an expanded assortment of
smart phones – including Sprint’s forthcoming HTC EVOTM 4G phone – as part of a
massive CE department upgrade.
“Customers
will discover more high quality internet-ready home entertainment products, new
wireless technologies and new mobile devices in stores and online that offer
simple, affordable solutions for creating a more connected life,” said Gary
Severson, home entertainment senior VP, Walmart U.S.
New entertainment products include:

A 50 percent increase in assortment of Internet
content streaming Blu-ray players from brands such as LG, Vizio, Samsung and
Sony, hosting internet accessible content from Vudu, Netflix and Pandora;

Internet-ready LED TVs, grouped in a “New
Technology” HDTV Center in
1,200 stores, including such brands as LG, Samsung, Sony and Vizio;

A dedicated “Wireless at Home” category at Walmart,
featuring
wireless networking products like Valet and popular Belkin andNetgear
offerings, and;

A dedicated prepaid mobile broadband section
including new products from Verizon, Cricket and Virgin.
