Bentonville,
Ark. – Walmart added Apple’s iPods, iPads and iPhones to its layaway program
for the holidays and began discounting the price of the new 16GB Verizon iPhone
4S to $188 from a suggested $199.
Walmart
said its 4S price is $10 less than that of other major retailers.
Also
for the holidays, Walmart is setting up special in-store displays to showcase
Apple devices and let consumers try out the products. Trained staff members
will be available on pre-specified days to demo the products and answer
questions, the company added.
The
chain launched the Verizon iPhone 4S 16G at select stores on Oct. 14 but hasn’t
made it available yet through its online store, a spokesperson told TWICE. Walmart operates
more than 4,300 stores and clubs in the U.S
Under the layaway program, consumers make a 10 percent
down payment and return by Dec. 16 to pay off the balance.
