ViewSonic Adds New Tablets To ViewPad Line

LAS VEGAS — ViewSonic will unveil two new tablets at International CES, the ViewPad 10e and ViewPad 10pi.

The ViewPad 10e is ViewSonic’s first large screen model intended for consumers, while the ViewPad 10pi, is for the commercial market.

The ViewPad 10e will carry a $299 suggested retail price and ship this month. the 10pi’s price has not been set as of press time, but it will ship on Jan. 10.

ViewSonic is touting the 10e as its thinnest tablet to date at 9.1mm thick and its first with an in-plane switching (IPS) LCD to deliver a wider view angle for its 9.7-inch display. The screen has 1,224 by 768 XGA resolution.

The tablet is based on the Android 2.3 operating system. This gives the device access to Amazon’s app store, but not to Google’s. Access to the latter requires the Android 3.0 operating system.

The 10e is powered by a 1GHz Coretx A8 processor and has 512MB of RAM, 4GB of embedded memory and a micro SD card slot.

Other features include Bluetooth 3.0 and 2.1, Wi-Fi a 3.5mm audio jack, stereo speakers and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel digital camera with microphone.

The display features ViewSonic’s ViewScene 3D, a 3D interface for several of its screen pages.

The 10pi is a dual operating system tablet with Windows 7 Professional and Android 2.3 installed. It uses an Intel Oak Trail z670 processor with Dx 9 capability. The display is 10.1 inches in diameter, and the tablet uses a 64GB solid-state drive for storage. It has Wi-Fi with an optional 3G capability. There are two USB 2.0 ports, a MicroSD card slot, speakers, microphone, G sensor, and 1.3-megapixel front and a 3-megapixel rear-facing cameras.
