Verizon Readies Tab 7.7 at $499

Basking Ridge, N.J. – Verizon
Wireless announced a $499 price point and March 1 availability of the

previously
announced

4G LTE-equipped Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

The price requires a two-year 4G
LTE service plan starting at $30/months for 2 GB of data.

The tablet, promoted as equally
adept for entertainment and business use, features 1.4GHz dual-core processor
and runs the tablet-optimized Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS. It’s promoted as the
world’s first tablet with proprietary Super AMOLED Plus display, which delivers
a wider range of colors and greater contrast than competing display
technologies, Samsung said. The screen features HD 1,280 by 800 WXGA
resolution.

The device features 720p video
capture through its 3.2-magepixel rear camera with LED flash, 1080p video
storage, and 1080p playback through an optional HDMI dock or optional adapter
connected to a TV. Through the dock or adapter, a connected TV will display
copy-protected movies and TV episodes downloaded from Samsung’s video-download
service.

Also for entertainment use, the
tablet features the Peel Smart Remote app, which displays a local channel guide
streamed via Wi-Fi and enables the tablet to double as an IR remote for home
entertainment systems built from many CE brands. The tablet comes with embedded
IR emitter.

Other features include Samsung’s
TouchWiz user interface, 16GB on-board storage, MicroSD card slot supporting
32GB cards, 5,100 mAh battery providing up to 10 hours of video playback time,
and 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot capability, which lets up to 10 Wi-Fi devices share a
4G connection simultaneously.

For business users, the tablet
features Samsung Approved for Enterprise (SAFE) certification, which signifies
enterprise-grade capabilities that safeguard data and communications. The SAFE
features include mobile device management (MDM), on-device encryption, virtual
private network (VPN) capability, and push synchronization of corporate email,
calendar and contacts.

Also for business use, the Tab 7.7 can be
paired with a keyboard dock for use with the QuickOffice Pro HD application,
which enables the creation and editing of Microsoft Office documents.
